A Special Drawing From Sara
The inspiration for our practice mascot came from a genuine moment of connection. It perfectly aligns with the fun and child-centered environment we work hard to provide every day. When Dr. Derrow was in dental school and pediatric residency, she lived in Indianapolis, and Sara was her next-door neighbor. Sara drew the original alligator picture when she was just six years old to help Dr. Derrow feel better about moving away.
The Unexpected Connection
Why An Alligator?
The great thing about this story is what Dr. Derrow later learned in dental history: in the Middle Ages, before it was common for everyone to be able to read, an alligator was actually the symbol of a dentist. That historical detail made Sara’s drawing feel even more meant to be. Dr. Derrow integrated the “sara-gator” into the practice logo, and the rest is history!

About Sara
Sara has three sisters and one brother and is currently a middle-school student in Indianapolis. She is a competitive Irish dancer, plays the piano, and still loves to draw.
