Where It All Began
A Special Drawing From Sara
Before opening Auburn Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Derrow attended dental school and completed her pediatric dental residency. During that time, she lived next door to a young girl named Sara. Before Dr. Derrow moved away, six-year-old Sara drew a picture of an alligator to help her through the transition. Years later, Dr. Derrow transformed that thoughtful gift into the Sara-Gator, a symbol that now welcomes children and families to our Auburn practice.

Why An Alligator?
Later, Dr. Derrow discovered an interesting piece of dental history. During the Middle Ages, dentists often used an alligator as their symbol because many people could not read. Because of that discovery, Sara’s drawing took on an even deeper meaning. Today, the Sara-Gator proudly represents the fun, welcoming, and compassionate care we provide every day at Auburn Pediatric Dentistry.

About Sara
Today, Sara has three sisters and one brother. She enjoys competitive Irish dancing, plays the piano, and continues to nurture her love of drawing.
